The Authority of Persons with Disabilities (APD) organized the fifth annual ceremony for the Purple Saturday initiative, attended by APD Chief Executive Officer Dr. Hisham bin Mohammed Al-Heidari, representatives from government entities, the private sector, and the non-profit sector, as well as persons with disabilities and participating international organizations. In his address, Dr. Al-Heidari underscored the Authority’s role in empowerment, inclusion, and integration with various sectors, noting that Purple Saturday is an opportunity for everyone to advance accessibility for persons with disabilities. He emphasized that the initiative serves as a platform to further enhance the experience of persons with disabilities and improve their quality of life. The ceremony featured a showcase of inspiring experiences, alongside international case studies that highlighted global best practices supporting persons with disabilities through the Purple Saturday initiative. Subsequently, Dr. Al-Heidari honored strategic, governmental, and international partners in recognition of their contributions to the success of initiatives and projects that advance the rights of persons with disabilities. He also presented the Purple Saturday Award to the winning entities from across the government, private, and non-profit sectors, and honored the best customer experience by a person with a disability. As part of the recognitions, the CEO honored entities that received the 2024 Gold Mowaamah Certification—the national program that enables public- and private-sector organizations to create inclusive workplaces that accommodate the needs of persons with disabilities. The ceremony also included recognition of the strategic sponsor, the Mowaamah Program, in addition to the Empowerment Sponsors—stc Bank and Al-Rai Al-Aam Company—in appreciation of their active contributions to the success of the initiative’s fifth edition. Purple Saturday is a national initiative launched and supervised by the Authority of Persons with Disabilities. It aims to raise awareness and enhance accessibility, in addition to offering tailored benefits and promotions for persons with disabilities. The initiative is held annually on the last Saturday of July, marking a distinctive milestone on the Kingdom’s journey toward inclusion and empowerment.
