What is World Parkinson's Day?
World Parkinson's Day is celebrated on April 11th of each year with the aim of raising awareness about Parkinson's disease, its symptoms, and its impact on the lives of those affected.
What is Parkinson's disease?
Parkinson's disease is a chronic neurological disorder that affects movement functions in the body. It results from the progressive damage of nerve cells in the brain, particularly in the substantia nigra, a region of the midbrain. These nerve cells are responsible for producing dopamine, a key neurotransmitter that helps coordinate movement. As dopamine levels decline significantly, the brain's signals to the muscles become inaccurate, leading to difficulty coordinating movements.
